How to Get a Thai Credit Card without a Payroll Slip

Unless you have a high-paying job in Thailand with at least an 80,000 baht salary, it can be difficult to get a credit card in Thailand.

If you don’t have a salary, then it’s going to be even more difficult. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t do it, you just need to know how.

In this article, we will point out how you can get a credit card without having income in Thailand.

If you don’t have income in Thailand, you can get a credit card by opening a fixed-term deposit account.

To open a fixed-term deposit account, all you need is your passport. You don’t need to show your salary slip. You don’t need to show your work permit. And you can even do it with a tourist visa.

Once you have a fixed-term deposit account, you can use it to get a credit card.

Please note that not all bank officers know about this. Some banks might also call it something else.

You should tell them that you want to get a credit card by depositing money into your account and use it as a deposit guarantee.

The credit limit is usually equal to the amount of the fixed deposit. For example, if you open a fixed-term deposit account with 40,000 baht, your credit limit is going to be 40,000 baht.

The table below shows how much you generally need in your deposit account, including the credit limit you will get when getting a credit card. Please note that the exact amount you need may differ from this table. In Thailand, banking regulations can vary between branches, so requirements are not always applied consistently.

Bank Minimum Amount Credit Limit
Bangkok Bank 20,000 baht 100% of the fixed deposit
Krung Thai 20,000 baht 100% of the fixed deposit
Kasikorn Thai 15,000 baht 100% of the fixed deposit
Krungsri 40,000 baht 90% of the fixed deposit
SCB 200,000 baht 50% of the fixed deposit

Please note that if you open a credit card through a fixed-term deposit account, you are two things you should keep in mind:

  • You should always maintain a balance in your account to prevent any unexpected issues with your credit card
  • To increase the credit limit, you need to add more money
