Thailand Starter Kit is written for people making real decisions about visas, money, health and housing in Thailand. This page explains how our guides get written and checked, and how we make money, so you can judge how much to trust what you read.
Who writes our guides
Our guides are written by the Thailand Starter Kit team in Bangkok and by contributing writers who live in Thailand or have spent years here. Every article shows who wrote it, and you can click the name to read their bio. A few business and legal guides were written by partner law firms, and those show the firm as the author.
How we check the facts
Visa, tax, legal and money guides are checked against official Thai sources, such as the Immigration Bureau, the Revenue Department and the Bank of Thailand. We list those sources at the end of the article. Patrick Limcaco, our senior editor, leads fact-checking.
On some high-stakes topics, a qualified professional (a lawyer, an insurance broker or a dentist) checks the article for accuracy. Their name appears in an “Accuracy checked by” box at the bottom. When that person works for one of our partners, the box says so.
Where a figure changes often, like a visa fee or an income requirement, we mark it with the month we last checked it.
How we keep guides up to date
Thai rules change often, and we update our guides when they do. The date at the top of each article shows when it was last updated. We only change that date when we change the content.
How we make money
Our guides are free. We pay for them through affiliate links, partner referrals, our relocation services and Premium membership. When an article has partner links, a note near the top says so.
We only recommend partners we have worked with or would use ourselves, and partners can’t pay to change what an article says about them. Read more in our Advertising Disclosure.
Spotted a mistake?
If something in a guide is wrong or out of date, tell us through our contact page. We check every report and fix what’s wrong.
