Thailand Starter Kit App Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Thailand Starter Kit app. It's short because the app collects very little. You don't need an account, and we never ask for your name, email address or phone number in the app.

What Stays on Your Phone

These are saved only on your device. We can't see them, and they are never sent to us:

  • Your visa details in My Visa: visa type, the date your permission to stay ends, your arrival date, your 90-day report dates, the trips abroad you log and your passport expiry date
  • The guides you save
  • Your recent searches
  • The city you pick for City Today

Visa reminders are scheduled by your phone itself. To delete this information, tap "Remove visa details" or "Remove 90-day dates" in My Visa, clear the app's storage in your phone settings, or uninstall the app.

What the App Sends to Our Server

To find answers, the app sends the question you type to the Thailand Starter Kit server. We keep a log of questions with the time and the number of results found, so we can see which topics readers need and write guides on the ones we don't cover yet. This log doesn't include your name, your device or your IP address, so a question can't be traced back to you. Please don't type personal details such as your passport number into the search box.

Our server sees your IP address while it answers a request, as every web server does. We use it only to stop automated abuse (by limiting how many requests one address can make per minute) and we don't store it.

When you open a guide, news story, City Today page, event or service list, the app downloads it from Thailand Starter Kit. This works the same way as visiting our website.

When you tap a link to one of our recommended partners, the app sends the tap through our server first. We record which partner link was tapped and when, so we know which recommendations readers find useful. This record doesn't include your name, your device or your IP address. Links to Thailand Starter Kit web pages carry a tag that tells our website the visit came from the app.

My Visa sometimes suggests a partner, for example a visa specialist when your permission to stay is about to end. The app picks these on your phone from your dates. Your dates are never sent to us or to any partner.

What We Don't Do

  • No advertising or ad tracking in the app
  • No analytics tools inside the app that follow what you do
  • No selling or sharing of your information
  • No access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location

Notifications

If you turn on visa reminders, the app asks for permission to show notifications. You can switch them off at any time in your phone settings.

Some pages open outside the app: partner services, event pages, maps, calculators and sources. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and the Thailand Starter Kit website is covered by our website privacy policy.

Children

The app is meant for adults living in or moving to Thailand. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If the app starts collecting anything new, we'll update this page before that version of the app is released, and change the date below.
