Phuket’s Hokkien-Chinese community marks the seventh-lunar-month Hungry Ghost Festival with ancestral offerings, red turtle-shaped ‘ang ku’ cakes, merit-making, lion dances and stage shows at shrines across the island. The main ceremony falls in late August.
